Cast your android device to Chromecast without a Wifi router

I just changed my mobile subscription to include free calls, texts and last but not least infinite data. The only downside is that the infinite data comes with conditions; You only have 60gb for tethering to your computer. As I don't have any ISP at the moment, I use tethering for daily my daily internet (ab)use. This leaves me with having to ration my internet use and I love to watch streams in twitch.tv. So I had to figure out a way to get the screen of my phone to my tv, so I could enjoy my streams on a 40" tv, instead of my OnePlus 3.

The Chromecast setup

So I kind of lied when I said that you don't need a router. Because you have to use one to set up the Chromecast initially. You have to set the routers SSID to something, my old router was called "Det-Vilde-Vesten". The password type should be WPA2 PSK and you should also set a password. Let's say "T0ps3cur3PW"

The phone setup

Now that you've set up the Chromecast, you can put the router away. The next steps are simply to replicate the settings on the router to your phone's wireless tethering settings. Go to Settings -> Tethering -> Wireless settings and simply change the name and the password to the routers.

Hey presto!

If you turn on Wireless tethering on the phone, your Chromecast should automatically detect the network and your devices are now connected. On Android 6.0.1 you can find "Cast" in the quick settings, when you drag down on the statusbar. Choose your Chromecast and the screen on the phone is now mirrored on the TV - the sound is also sent to the television. Now everything you watch on your mobile will be downloaded to your phone and the wifi tethering will sent directly to the Chromecast. Enjoy :)
